Superbowl 43

I was sick Sunday morning, Mike's back was (and still is) killing him, and he had to preach in the AM. We knew we wanted a quiet afternoon enjoying one of America's favorite annual past times. Saturday he went out for some Superbowl snacks in preparation. Alani and I watched movies all morning because I just didn't have it in me to do much else, sick and all (a cold).

Mike and I are addicted to scrabble on facebook. We're thinking of getting the "hard copy" version, but when we considered it for Superbowl day, we realized that the online version isn't messy, Alani can't get into it, there's no clean up, and it's a bit of a no brainer, you don't even have to look things up in the dictionary, you just click "play" and if it's not a word, it tells you so! So we played a game of it all afternoon.

There were snacks (in this photo Alani is telling Mike "Daddy, you're in my way" because just before he'd been dipping)

Of course we had our 3-D glasses. Mike just happened to decide on Target for his snack getting on Saturday and they were handing out free 3-D glasses for the half-time commercials.

My sister made this adorable superbowl cake for Superbowl. I decided I just HAD to have one too :0) But one just wasn't enough, so I made mine in the mini loaf pan instead of making one large cake. I was pretty happy with the cute little outcome. Thanks for the idea Haley.
Always be sure to have a lovely assistant in the kitchen. . . for displaying your creation, licking, frosting, and creativing interpretive superbowl cakes Oh, and here Alani said "It's TOO heaby mommy!"
Alani ate about half of one of these little cakes, it was too late for Mike to be eating sweets, particularly chocolate (an hour before his bedtime, he wouldn't be able to sleep) so he just had two bites.

It beats last year's catastrophe. Last year we WOULD NOT have been ready for the digital switch, as we ONLY had analog. Last year we watched the Superbowl on Fox IN SPANISH (why? We don't know!). I think we were at the end of the money for that half of the month, so we just ate what was available at home. . . Superbowl in Spanish, eating leftover soup. . . yeah, this year totally beat last year.
